I bought my first camera, a Russian SLR film camera in a local market in Kabul, Afghanistan. As a teenager, going to the American International School, I wanted to capture the scenery and cultural imagery all around me. Photography was a perfect medium to convey in images what I was not always able to communicate verbally. Later, in college I used photography and printmaking to design images of my childhood travels.
